Mechanic

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain a fleet of vehicles including 15 passenger vans, minivans, trucks, rental vehicles, snow plows, brush trucks, and heavy machinery.
  • Perform routine maintenance work to increase functionality and longevity of the fleet.
  • Throughout the summer season conduct weekly maintenance checks on all of the 15 passenger vans and other vehicles used for summer camp transportation.
  • Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.
  • Examine machines and oversee diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.
  • Design a plan of action for all vehicle maintenance tasks and upgrades.
  • Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
  • Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary.
  • Participate in the looking for and the purchasing of new vehicles.

Other Duties

  • Lead applicable staff training for summer programming.
  • Assist with emergency situations, vehicular or otherwise.
  • Work flexible hours when needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe shop.
  • Occasionally assist the maintenance department with projects as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications, education and experience.

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position
  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle diagnostic equipment and mechanical systems
  • Strong attention to detail with an aptitude for problem-solving
  • Excellent work habits including: punctuality, efficient use of time, prioritizing tasks
  • All COEC employees must pass a background check

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and/or with others to maintain and repair vehicles
  • Applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Applicants must be comfortable working with a wide range of equipment and tools
  • Applicants must have experience working with power tools and knowledge of their safe operation
  • Applicants must have the ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust

Physical Requirements

  • Use your hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, and controls.
  • Bend or twist your body.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Repeat the same movements.
  • Kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.
