Apprentice Job Description
The Colorado Outdoor Education Center will train you with the necessary skills to operate a lodge, hotel, or conference center. Following your year-long apprenticeship, you will possess a high-level understanding of the tasks required to operate a outdoor hospitality and conference center business. This apprenticeship is a year long position focused on hospitality roles such as the front desk, client communications, kitchen and dining operations, and housekeeping. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

- Flexible Schedule including some weekends
- All COEC Employees must pass a background check.
Physical & other Requirements:
- Ability to spend all day on your feet
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- Ability to maneuver over uneven terrain

Wages During Period of Apprenticeship:
Requirement for Advancement-per Colorado Department of Labor Starting Wage: $13.56/hr (this is below minimum wage because room and board is provided)
Interim Wage-per Colorado Department of Labor 500 hours and completion of successful first performance evaluation: $14.25/hr (this is below minimum wage because room and board is provided)
Completion Wage pending full demonstration of all competencies: $15.00/hr
Apprentice Job Responsibilities

Housekeeping and Front Desk Operations:
- Housekeeping
- Stripping and stocking in guest rooms
- Conference room care and cleaning
- Table, chair, and trash maintenance
- Bathrooms
- Fulfilling guest requests
- Lost and found procedures
- Communication and cordiality
- Productivity and efficiency
- Time management
- Service cart preparation and use
- Organization, planning, and flexibility
- Answer client phone calls and take messages
- Greet guests, orient them to the space, and give out keys
- Manage small sundry store purchase using both cash system and credit card
- Online reservation system
- Client care set up
- Assist in setup of the conference room configurations per client’s programming needs
- Refill and restock coffee bars and other supplies
- Note and communicate facility improvement needs with the maintenance team

Kitchen Operations:
- Prep and cook meals for clients
- Proper food handling techniques and methods
- Awareness of client dietary restrictions
- Preparation of food specific to those needs
- Company related safety practices
- Assist in maintaining a clean kitchen
- Proper chemical usage for various applications
- Testing and maintaining the dishwasher
- Ensuring sparkling dishware is clean
- Maintaining a tidy dining area
- Clean disinfect and store all equipment at the end of the shift
- Work in a team environment
- Foster a climate of cooperation and respect between coworkers
- Notify superiors on any damages, deficits and disturbances
- Appropriately managing client interactions
- Dealing with reasonable complaint/requests with professionalism and patience
