COEC’s Core Values are deeply connected to the development of people in the outdoors, and successful employees will find many of their personal values reflected in the culture, attitudes, and behaviors of our organization.
Year round and seasonal employees of Sanborn Western Camps, The Nature Place, and High Trails Outdoor Education Center will find they are part of the larger COEC ecosystem. People will smile at you, they will know your name, they will ask how you are doing, and they will genuinely care about your successes and your challenges. Our employees feel seen and cared for, and because of this they are consistently connected and committed to the success of our organization and our mission.
Our “see-do” philosophy means that if we see something that needs to be done .. we do it! That means our Executive Director will plunge a toilet, everyone helps clear and wipe the tables in our lodges and dining areas, an off-season director might lead the high ropes course, we keep vehicles clean for each other, our maintenance department helps lead programming, and we all pitch in and are willing to ask, “what can I do to help?” whenever it is needed.
Our seasonal Sanborn Western Camps staff appreciate “the community, personal growth, being disconnected from technology and being connected to kids and other amazing leaders in the natural world.” Many staff members in our Essential Services departments (laundry, food service, hospitality and maintenance) have worked with us for decades and they love “the people…the sense of community…the caring leadership of the organization.” Our High Trails Outdoor Education instructors value the opportunity “to teach in a unique, outdoor classroom…honing my lesson planning and teaching strategies while working with students who may have never spent any significant time outdoors.”
COEC is more than just a workplace - we’re a tiny mountain community outside of Florissant, Colorado, where we invest in the growth and development of individuals while working together to build a vibrant, supportive learning community for all of our campers, students and guests.
